Morning on the farm

Farm mornings start early, whether you mean them to or not. The rooster has his own ideas about when the day begins, and the hens, ducks and goats are soon about. If you are up, step outside while the air is still cool and look across the garden towards the distant hills.

Breakfast is served at the retreat, often at the outdoor table when the weather is kind. Ask the hosts what time suits everyone, and whether eggs from the farm's own hens are on the table that morning. Read more in farm-to-table food at Bulbul.

The middle of the day

Late morning is a good time to decide how much you want to do. Some guests stay put: a book in the pavilion, a turn on the garden swing, a long spell in a hammock. Others head into Tansen for the old bazaar or up towards Shreenagar Hill, then come back for a quieter afternoon.

If you want to go out, talk your plans through with the hosts the evening before. They know the local roads and can tell you what is realistic in the time you have. There is parking on site if you arrive with your own vehicle.

Afternoon and evening

Afternoons tend to drift. Walk the garden paths under the lychee and jackfruit trees, look in on the ducks by the pond, or sit with Coco and Leo if they are in the mood for company. Let them come to you, and leave them be when they are resting.

As evening comes, the garden cools and the colours change over the hills. On some evenings there is a bonfire, and on clear nights the sky is worth a long look. Ask the hosts whether a fire is planned during your stay.

Shaping your own day

The simplest way to shape your day is to tell the hosts what you are hoping for. Mention meals, outings and anything special in your enquiry, and they can tell you what is possible for your dates. Start on the stay page.
